Roy R. Hammond, 79, of Spencer, passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 13, 2013. He was born in Marion, North Carolina on May 25, 1933 to Charles and Effie (Wright) Hammond. He was an Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Roy was an engineering supervisor for General Motors, retiring in 1987. He attended Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.

Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife, Carol (Fulk) Hammond whom he married in 2001; son, Raymond (Janice) Hammond of Lake Orion, Michigan; daughter, Elizabeth (Jim) Toycen of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; stepchildren, Amy (Adam) Allen of Terre Haute, Lindsay (Tim) Roberts of Greenwood, Alaina Wallace (Jay Miller) of Spencer; brother, Ralph Hammond of Burnsville, North Carolina; sister, Eunice McElrath of Delaware and eight grandchildren.

He is preceded by his parents; brothers, Henry, Ernest, Cecil and Bruce Hammond and sisters, Clair Craig, Pearl Presnell, Golda McElrath, Wilma Evishs, Madeline Manis and Betty Larson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, January 17, 2013 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Clark officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Spencer America Legion and VFW. Visitation will be Wednesday, 4-8 pm and Thursday one hour prior to the service.
