Robert Thomas Penno 87, of Indianapolis passed away at 4:48 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at home following a short illness. He was born August 30, 1924 in Terre Haute Indiana to Mildred Prewitt and Carl Penno. Following his graduation from Arsenal Technical High School in 1942, he attended Rose Polytechnic Institute in Terre Haute Indiana where he was a member of Theta Xi fraternity and graduated as a mechanical engineer in 1946. He spent 25 years at the Allison Turbine Corporation in Indianapolis, was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Indiana and retired from the State of Indiana in 1989. He married Mary Moeller July 31, 1948, and remained her faithful husband for 57 years prior to her passing in 2005.
Mr. Penno is survived by son Robert Prewitt (wife Julie) Penno of Dayton Ohio; daughter Barbara Ann (husband Thomas) Isch of Simi Valley California; son Thomas Paul (wife Cathy) Penno of Carmel Indiana; daughter Nancy Steketee of Indianapolis, Indiana;
He is also survived by ten grandchildren and 5+ great grandchildren who were the love of his life. Calling will be held at Flanner Buchanan - Board Ripple on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 8 pm. A service will be held at10 a.m. on Saturday February 18, 2012 at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Center followed by burial at Our Lady of Peace cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 5500 Wabash Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47803.
