Leonard E. Dailey, 88, of Kokomo, passed away at 5:45 P.M. Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Northwoods Village, Kokomo. He was born September 14, 1923 in Kokomo, IN to the late Orville and Florence (Naylor) Dailey. Leonard married Velma Irwin-Wisehart on November 5, 1966, and she passed away exactly 35 years later. Leonard worked most of his life as a self-employed carpenter, but his passion was music. He played trombone and drums back in the 1950's, and was always a big supporter of the Kokomo Park Band. Leonard was a member at the Eagles, and also the VFW fathers auxiliary.
Leonard is survived by a step son, Rodger (Mary) Wisehart; step daughters, Marilyn (Jim) Darland, Shirley (Terry) Zieger and Barbara (Charles) Wright; a sister, Roberta "Bobbie" Hale; nephews, Alan Kaye and Stephen and Jeff Ely; nieces, Janet Hood, Anita and Wanita Turner and Suzanne Ferguson; along with several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma Irwin; sisters, Anita, Donna and Norma Jean; a brother, Orville Dailey Jr.; and three step sons, Mearl N. Wisehart Jr., Jerry Lee Wisehart and Stephen Ray Wisehart.
There will be a funeral service for Leonard at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo, on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Paul Sutherland officiating. After the funeral service, we will be taking Leonard to his final resting place in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Leonard's family and friends are welcome to join together for a time of visitation on Friday, June 15, from 11:00 A.M. till the time of the funeral service, also at the mortuary.
