Guadalupe "Christine" Cato, 95, Kokomo, passed away on April 11, 2012 at 12:05 AM at North Woods Village. She was born on November 12, 1916 in Piedras Negras, Mexico to the late Atilano and Benita (Andrada) Coronado. In Kokomo, she married Hartsell Cato. Mr. Cato passed away in 2005.
Christine came to the United States in 1918 with her parents. She began working on the farm with were family by picking cotton, and plowing fields. Her and her husband came to settle in Kokomo in the early 1940s. Christine began working for the Good Samaritan, St. Joseph Hospital, and then Barb's Barbecue, which she ran for eight plus years. She thoroughly enjoyed her garden, and growing beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed crochet, watching wrestling, roller derby, cooking homemade Mexican food, and spending time with her family.
Surviving is her; daughter; Juanita Coleman, Kokomo, three grandchildren; Laverne Wallace, Kokomo, Barbara Vandevender, Kokomo, Anthony L. Coleman, Oakland, CA, great grandchildren; Ramon Reece, Louisville, KY, Daphne Reece, Kokomo, great great grandchildren; Jalen Wilson, Celeste Reece, Ramon Reece III, Gabrielle Reece, Stephanie Reece, Taylor Reece, Docker Reece, and many nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by; her parents, husband, one son; Ysavel Esparza, grandson; Lockert Coleman III, three sisters, Mary Mendoza, Jesusita Coronado, Isabella Coronado.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo, IN 46901 with Father Theodore Dudzinski officiating. Burial will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the mortuary. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
