Dorothy S. Sternberg, 92, Indianapolis, passed away February 7, 2013. She was born September 7, 1920 in Cullman, Alabama, the daughter of Hubert and Edith (Holmes) Moore. Dorothy was a charter member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Indianapolis. She retired from P. R. Mallory in 1978, and had served as the secretary of the International Union of Electricians Local #1001. Dorothy was an avid bowler, having bowled in 55 women's national tournaments, and was a member of the Indiana State Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She was very civic-minded, and served as a precinct committee person for the elections. Dorothy was also a life member of the VFW Post #2999 and the Women's Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge #17.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Cleghorn, her son-in-law, George Cleghorn, and a grandson, Michael Cleghorn. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerome Sternberg; her children, Jeff Lazo (Miriam), Denise Boyer (Brian), and Cheryl Lynette (Chris); her grandchildren, Rick Smallwood, Tami Shoults, Lisa Geraghty, Tracee Shields, Tim O'Brian, Jr., Jennifer Harvey, Jeff O'Brian, Evan Lynette, Garrett Lynette, Jessica Boyer, and Brooke Boyer; 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Bramman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, February 11 at 11 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 E. 10th Street, Indianapolis. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 10 from 3-8 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, with a rosary service at 7:30 PM. Entombment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association or Masses.
