Obituary

Sylvia Henricks passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 19. Born April 6th 1922, she was just shy of her 95th birthday. She was born in Dayton Ohio to Wilson R. Scott and Mabel Mae Peters Scott. Her parents and a brother, W.R. Scott predecease her. Sylvia graduated from the University of Dayton in 1942, and married Marvin Henricks, a handsome seminary student "who promised to make her laugh" on December 25, 1943. Sylvia was a Preacher's wife in Winnebago Minnesota, San Pedro California, and Bethlehem, Connecticut. They settled for good in Indianapolis on six acres in Franklin Township, the Ash Grove. Marvin taught Sociology at then Indiana Central College and Sylvia worked in the College Library. Marvin passed away in 1988. Their four children, John (KIP), Tom (Judy) Ann (Ted) Hansen and Ted (Lisa) survive. Sylvia lived a long and happy life as a wife, mother, and grandmother, and as a published writer and columnist, a photographer, weaver, artist, gardener, a reader, a Scrabble enthusiast, and a darned good cook. In 1976, she helped found the Franklin Township Historical Society to which she was devoted and active for the rest of her life. In addition to her children, Sylvia loved her eight grandchildren, Lizzie, Katie, David, Griffin, Samantha, Ryan, Chelsea, and Molly, and her many friends. Calling will be Wednesday March 22 at Wilson St. Pierre Sterling Gerber Chapel on 5950 E. Thompson Road, Indianapolis, IN 46237 from 4-8 pm, and her service will be at Acton United Methodist Church, 5650 Senour Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46239 at 10 am on Thursday. Private burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton Ohio. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, you may make a contribution to the Franklin Township Historical Society, the Marvin and Sylvia Henricks Scholarship at University of Indianapolis, or the Acton United Methodist Church. Lastly, the family wishes to thank the staff at Beech Grove Meadows and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and kindness during this last week.
