I worked with Bill for many years on the staff at Greenwood HS, and he was a hard working, conscientious man who was about helping others. I can still see him wheeling overhead projectors, 16mm film projectors, etc around the high school on a cart in his duties as head of the A-V dept. He truly cared about people and it showed. I remember when Phil was playing freshman football for me and Bill would always stop and ask me

I am sorry to say that I cannot attend the funeral due to a sick child.
Bill Mellencamp should have the very best attendance at the celebration of a life very well lived.
I have known him for most of my life although I know his Brother (my uncle) much better. No memory of Bill was more memorable and entertaining than his bouncing endless puns and word plays off his brother.
At one point a few years ago, he was going

I met Bill at Greenwood High School. Math was my favorite course. It still is. I was saddened to hear on the news of his and his wife's accident in southern IN. I am sure that the family is still in shock over the developments of this year. And I wish THE BEST FOR ALL WHO WERE CLOSE TO THESE FINE PEOPLE.

I met Bill as a Purdue freshman in 1957. I was pledging Beta Sigma Psi (Lutheran Social Fraternity) and Bill was an active. Bill left Purdue after the first semester that year, transferred to Franklin, and alas, I never saw him again.
Even in our short weeks knowing one another, I came to admire this James Dean look-a-like/fan we affectionately called "Moose." I considered him a friend and he was missed by the brothers.
From what I've read here, Bill surely turned out to be one of the good ones.
RIP Bill and Sharlene.

Bill Mellencamp was my math teacher MANY years ago at Greenwood. He was a kind and caring man. Several years after I was married we lived on W Wiley and the Mellencamps were back door neighbors. We had dinner at their house several times. I remember them as very caring, kind and hospitable. Sorry for your loss. Threy will be missed.
