Memories & Candles
My heart was very much saddened to hear of Red's passing. I had joined the NPVFD in 1985 and met so many wonderful people including Red. He was like my "fire department dad" always watching out for me, kidding me and asking me "Want some candy little girl?" :) Later after I married a Greenfield Medic and worked in the local Hospital ER he would come in on runs and we picked up conversation like time had never passed....and still

I knew Red for most of my teenage years. I was one of many children he influenced while umpiring at Doe Creek. I remember well a time that I was catching and Red said he did not have to worry about being hit by the ball because it was one of those Kendrick girls. He also played a great roll as a mentor to my sister Heather while she had her own difficulties as a teenager. Our family was blessed to have him in our lives.

When my mother married Luther Murnan, they were both 80 years old. I knew nothing about New Palestine, as I lived in indianapolis. But I soon heard many stories about Red from Luther, my stepfather. He bragged about how Red was always willing to help anyone at any time. I met Red briefly several times through the years, but I remember him best from about 1995. By that time I was living in New Palestine, caring for my mother and

My deepest sympathy to all the family.

Where do I start??? I actually met Red before I met Red. I moved to New Pal while Red and Florence were in Florida (snow birding). Having new in New Palestine, I tried to meet a lot of new people. I told them I was the new pastor in town at NPUC, and the first words out of their mouths were, "Oh, you know Red!" In those days before his coming back to New Pal, I probably knew more about

What a wonderful man! Red was kind and funny and always uplifting. He made me feel at home the first time I met him at the Firehouse. He and I laughed about being redheaded and the mischievousness that goes along with it. He always had a way of making you feel like you were important and listened to. I was blessed to have known him! Thank you for sharing such wonderful man with our community. He will be missed!

I first meet Wilbur "Red" (is what I called him) when I started working at the fire department located on main street in New Palestine. He offered me some candy! After that day he would come in a couple times a week and we would sit and chat. It was nice to listen to old stories about his life. He was a wonderful person and will be truly missed!
